Our Paella

Learn to Cook Paella Evening

Join us at La Despensa for a Paella Cooking demonstration with our Chef Antoni Serra. You will begin your evening with a selection of tapas, then gather round while Antoni shows you how to cook one of Spain’s most iconic dishes which you will then be able to eat for dinner. Dessert is also included plus two different wines will also be provided by Vinicola Wines.

Format: The evening will run for two hours and includes the paella cooking demonstration, 6 courses and two glasses of wine. The wines you try will also be available for you to purchase through our Vinicola Wines website and can be delivered to your home later in the week.

Jamon and Queso Tasting Night

Our Jamon and Queso Night is a collaboration between La Despensa and Mate in Spain, a specialist jamon (ham) and queso (cheese) gourmet food provider. The event is an educational tasting tour guided by Guillermo Rabago from Mate in Spain and La Despensa head chef and owner Antoni Serra. It’s a relaxed informal discussion with the objective of discovering new jamon and queso from Spain.


Every jamon and queso will be matched with wine pairings to enhance their characteristics. Over the course of a couple of hours we’ll be explaining the different types of jamon and queso plus the production techniques.


The Details

Format: The evening will run for two hours and includes jamon and queso tastings. The wines you try will also be available for you to purchase through our Vinicola Wines website and can be delivered to your home later in the week.

Price: $120 per person (includes jamon and queso explanation and tastings, dishes especially prepared by the chef incorporating jamon and queso plus two glasses of wine)

Basque Pintxos Evening

Our Basque Pintxos Evening is a collaboration between La Despensa and our Basque friends from Gure Txoko Basque Club in Sydney. La Despensa will be transformed into a traditional Pintxos Bar for one evening just like they do in the Basque Country. Pintxos consist of small slices of bread upon which an ingredient or mixture of ingredients is placed and fastened with a toothpick, which gives the food its name, meaning spike.


Antoni Serra and Gure Txoko will be serving up some classic Basque Pintxos from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm. Your ticket price includes all food and three beverage tokens. Vinicola Wines will be providing the beverages which will include cider, txakoli or wine and beer.
